"60 second Street Symphony" was recorded in a side street off Lista di Spagna, Venice at 10am Thursday 14th February 2008. The work explores 1 minute of an ordinary day in this street. The sounds of high culture mix with the ordinary, mundane activities of life describing the movement of people through the space, whilst an unseen singer repeats sections of an opera from an open window. I stood recording the event taking place around me, watching and listening to people who appeared to be absorbed in their own activity and oblivious to the part they were playing in a collective performance of urban life. |
